PGH, I miss you.

I miss Pittsburgh. I miss Canonsburg. It's sad but true. Here's some highlights from my hometown- home to the G20, sweet cars, and not-so weird coincidences.

Here are the highlights from the New York Times article on the G20 in PGH:

this car is from my hometown and it's so tacky that I love it.

when searching for "mexican typography", I found this.

I Like FB & Video Game Art

grainedit featured old video game design recently. I love the picture above. The two guys to the left are totally into it and freaking out yet the three others are unaffected in conversation. tehe... I need to start drawing more '70s typography.

Clark/ ATypI '09

Head over to LensCulture to read and see more about Edmund Clark's "If the Light Goes Out: Home From Guantanamo". He does a wonderful job at contrasting the scene at Gitmo with the actual homes of some of the detainees to show the humanity of the prisoners.

This video makes me excited. Why? I'm writing my thesis on typography in Mexico! It's weird to see the parallels to the '68 Olympics- it's the first conference of the Association Typographique Internacionale in Latin America and Mexico is chosen for it's tradition, culture and innovation? I don't think it'll be associated with a student movement though.

Guitar Hero

Brand New details the new Guitar Hero typo revamp. I'm really digging these designs for the newest spin-offs- DJ Hero and Band Hero. They are definitely invoking different styles- from the hard rock we are used to for Guitar Hero to the '70s disco for DJ Hero and the almost fantasy treatment for Band Hero. I love it!

below is a can't miss caption.

Sarah Appelbaum/No. Zine

I obviously don't check Fecal Face enough because I missed Sarah Applebaum's studio visit! Here textiles and paperwork are whimsical, bright and not without a high level of ingenuity.

On the 4th, Uppercase covered a lovely "typeface show". Check out the beautiful ampersands...mmm...

No. Zine uses a single spot color throughout their issues. I had that idea! dammit! Here are my favorite spreads form the current three issues.

Stefan Kanchev

Stefan Kanchev's work caught my eye on grainedit with his beautiful work (above) using clean graphics and a host of bright lines and shapes. Then I peeked over at his website and realized that his logos and stamps had made him "National Artist"in Bulgaria 1971. Below is his logo for the Central Puppet Theater in Sofia.
