Kinetic Typography is truly the next form for visual poetry. It can add a cadence and design before limited by the page or even before, type cases. You can go 3d, backwards, forwards, different faces and colors changing before your eyes! I'll have to get my animator boyfriend to teach me after affects if I ever want to take a stab at it myself.

"the" is an important word in the english language. it helps us identify an instance within a multitude. However, "the" can be a unique challenge for logo design and type setters- often getting shoved into a corner, shrunk to insignificance in order to make way for the meat. But low and behold, Robb Ogle has brought a spotlight to our forgotten article via his site The "the" Project. He takes old advertisements (a cache of amazing hand lettering!) and recreates just the "the".

my buddy emily showed me this amazing underwater sculpture by Jason DeCaires Taylor off the coast of Cancun. DeCaires Taylor works with the Museo Subacuatico de Arte to attract tourists to the artificial reefs created by DeCaires Taylor's sculptures and away from the natural reefs. What amazing way to marry conservation and art.

here are the guts to a book I've been working on relating the five Chinese elements. as you turn the pages you are seen how the elements flow together- creating and destroying each other. The Mosaic Experiment/Restraint

I have a think for beards. I did a barely similar (aka much worse) illustration of a long beard with mustache for CONTRAST's 2009 fall issue. Luckily, Arthur Cherry has designed a much better ode to beards for the Mosaic Experiment, a book about living traditional Jewish teachings in a modern age. I enjoy the worn feeling, use of old motifs such as rotunda, yet like the content uses these with a modern sensibility. Read more at Face Out Books.

Arthur also designed inside panels to match the cover design:
at first I was flipping, thinking- dude, this guy totally just ripped the typeface treatment for his other book. Then I realized that the Mosaic Experiment and the Kingdom Experiment are related, and now, I think it was a great move. (and that I make rash judgements)

I recognize this! Arthur's design for Lodahl's the Story of God was also featured on Face Out Books and uses Marion Bantje's typeface Restraint gorgeously.
